One man's trash..

Tim Nobel and Sue Webster take piles of trash and turn it into art ... but the art isn't apparent until you see it in a different light.
thanks Floor :)

pAper Art

These are some entries for an art contest at the Hirshorn Modern Art Gallery in DC. The rule was that the artist could use only one sheet of paper. It's the simple things in life ..
I saw the winning piece "Black Cloud" from Carlos Amorales in the gallery made out of thousands of lasercut black paper moths attached to the walls and ceiling of the big gallery space: beautiful!
[ Thank you Floor : ) ]

fOund in pOckets

I saw this blog by accident: found in pockets. I like to see what people carry with them, they seem so meaningless, or not?
It reminds me of the bag tag by ashley rose.

Act as if the future of the universe
depends on what you do,
while laughing at yourself
for thinking that your actions
could make any difference.

I'm into ceramics these days, and these works by hella jongerius are very inspirational. The looks of my work are totally different, but on a conceptual level they're alike sometimes. I'll show some more of my ceramic projects on inTussen blog soon!

7 random things about me

It is already more than a week ago that I got tagged by Loraine of Grijs, but here it is. Sorry for being late..

= my lucky number is 7
= I was born at 13.10h
= I'm bad in remembering people's names
= I love to walk in the forest, in mountains/dunes and the beach
= I'm a dreamer
= I love cooking, and love to bake the most when I have some time on my hand
= When I sleep, I sleep very tight

And also some of my best decisions so far:

= to live on my own
= to travel through India for 5 months after graduating
= to be an independant designer
= to love Simon
= to practice yoga and meditate regularly

I'm not going to tag anybody, but if you want me to, let me know..

And to complete this post: a picture of my bag and what's inside, an idea of ashley rose helvey..

Bubblicious

I saw this beautiful lamp by Chris Kabel on his website. Simple, but because of the consequence of the material it's a complex kind of beauty. I like his approach to design and recognize my own attitude in it.
And I saw the new mac book's lauched. And I just bought the last one, but no regrets..

blanketCarpet

I saw this beautiful carpet here, made out of blankets. Design by Tejo Remy and Rene Veenhuizen in collaboration with Tanja Smeets. I did my internship at their office four years ago. See some more beautiful projects on their site. The cup is from Tanja Smeets' site.

crAzy

I went to Het Dolhuys in Haarlem this week, it's a former psychiatric hospital turned into a museum. The museum and exhibition is beautiful and interactive, the design of the interior is by Kossmann.deJong. It made hang around longer than planned and interested me in the topic. And I had some delicious cheesesoup in the restaurant.
"We would like to encourage our visitors to think about the boundary between crazy and normal and question the representations of ‘madness’. Experience the world of madness in the Dolhuys. Meet madmen and lunatics, or clients as they are known today, in our interactive museum and find out how the Netherlands has dealt with madness throughout the centuries."

Olafur Eliasson's house

Artist Olafur Eliasson created this piece, a laser-cut negative space rendering of his house in 1:85 scale. It’s made of 454 slices, bound together in a book. It was commissioned by the MoMa in NYC.
I saw this unique book a few weeks ago at a meeting, I couldn't believe my eyes, that it is possible to create something so complicated instead of only dreaming about it. When you flip through the book you discover beautiful details.

FLOCKS

By dutch designer Christien Meindertsma. I appreciate the way she pays attention to the origin of the material she uses for her designs. There's even a picture with number of the animal the article's wool is made from. This particular carpet is made from the wool of 18 merino-sheep. Take a look on the website.

I came across this website of french Christian Moullec. Looks like a dream..

COM-PA-NY

I saw the website of this creative duo. I like their humor and capability to relativize everyday life through their designs. It looks like they have a lot of fun anyway : )
They live in Finland, the project above is called Kotimaiset/Domestic. You can browse on their website for hours!

ViAViA

Take a look at the blog of very talented artist Lennard Schuurmans. You go!

DIP

I bought some beautiful flowers for this vase standing on my window sill: DIP vase from Robert Bronwasser at Goods. Thanks Gisela : )

AnnA

I saw the exhibition "Anna" in the museum. Art objects -mostly on textile- are shown from Anna Verweij. She made them during the 70's, and died at a young age. I liked a few things about it; her experiments and poetic approach. Sometimes I didn't like the result, but I also liked to see that. What's the difference between ugly and beautiful, good and bad?

I can't figure out who made this but I think it's great! Words form images that move and change... Check out the site!

Poetry after the beep

I bumped into this project on the net at coudal. People were asked to read their favorite short poems into their answering machine for a project they called Verse By Voice. And they did, creating maybe the first-ever poetry meme. Make sure to listen to novelist Zadie Smith reading Frank O'Hara's Animals and Laura Demanski reading Gerard Manley Hopkins' Spring and Fall.

I love it!

This flickr-site by Kathy Li from San Diego is inspiring. She made several panoramic photos and stitched them together, creating mini-planets. Go see for yourself!

went to the zoo the other day and was very inspired by the caterpilars/coocoons/butterflies. I was surprised about the many different shapes, colors, sizes.

Natalia Gomensoro has send me an email to share some of her work. She makes fascinating jewelry, they look industrial, mechanical, clean, but friendly. I like the conceptual-ness about these rings; they evoke an interaction of some kind. Look on her etsy-site for more.

Iris Zugovic

Yesterday I spoke to Iris; she makes drawings, paintings, sculptures, installations. They look like they came out of dreams, very free, full of imagination. Look on her website to see more.

Yoshimoto Nara

I've been to the exhibition of Yoshimoto Nara's work in GEM last week. I'm still not sure what to think of it. He is an contemporary Japanese pop-artist [and pop-star in Japan] and he paints these innocent looking children with strong emotions showing in their eyes. I love his use of colors and the way he applies paint on the canvas - different transparent layers of contrasting colors, he also paints on pieces of canvas layered on wood. I especially liked the way the exhibition was built - in collaboration with designcollective Graf - and constructed together with students of the art academy in The Hague.
Maybe I should go to Japan for a while to understand the context of Japanese art - as so many good artists and designers come from Japan [and the worlds most healtiest people too!] I would love to go....
